Services - supporting services related to the demolition and recycling of construction waste

Construction Waste Management Plan (CWMP)
The Construction Waste Management Plan (CWMP) covers the measures foreseen in the different parts of design of the investment project pertaining to construction waste activities. The CWMP shall ensure that the material recovery targets for construction waste and the targets for the incorporation of recycled materials are met. In the GBS and in the MOBICCON-PRO project partners team, there are have qualified CWMP planners to prepare CWMP for different types of construction (buildings, roads, other technical infrastructure) and for different activities (construction, overhaul, reconstruction, demolition). A professionally prepared CWMP enables the best and most efficient management of construction waste and allows best planning of resources (time, labor, mechanization, cashflow) of the investors and the contractors of the construction works/demolition.

Identification of hazardous features of construction waste
The hazardous features of construction waste may be due to its composition (e.g. asbestos, tar, mercury, heavy metals, polychlorinated bi-phenyls (PCBs), etc.) and also its origin, as contamination of various kinds may occur during the operation of the construction. Neglecting hazardous construction waste poses risks to human health and the environment, as well as contamination of recycled materials. The European catalogue of hazardous construction waste is quite general and relies on national legislation to establish procedures for the identification, decontamination and limit values for the content of hazardous components in construction materials. In our country these processes are not regulated in sufficient detail and there is a lack of knowledge among the wider construction community about hazardous / contaminated construction waste. The GBS and its partners in the MOBICCON-PRO project possess extensive experience in the identification of hazardous construction waste, including through the use of rapid on-site methods (e.g., portable XRF and Raman spectrometer), which allows potentially hazardous waste to be identified and adequate decontamination methods (if required) to be selected, thereby eliminating the risks associated with the presence of hazardous construction waste. GBS offers on-site identification, sampling, testing services in authorized laboratories and analysis of results.

Pre-demolition audit (PDA)
Pre-demolition audit (PDA) and pre-reconstruction audit (PRA) are important elements of construction waste management. Performed by professionals allows hazardous construction waste and/or contamination to be identify and to provide recommendations for decontamination/clean-up to ensure both healthy and safe conditions for workers of demolition/repair/reconstruction and to prevent environmental contamination. The report of the PDA or PRA carried out shall analyze the possibilities for re-use of materials and elements and will contain data for the CWMP (types and quantities of construction waste). GBS offers a qualified service in line with the best European practices.

Selective demolition (deconstruction)
“Selective demolition (deconstruction)” is a construction removal activity aimed to separating waste by material during the demolition process. Selective demolition is mandatory in Bulgaria under the Waste Management Act as it ensures the safe treatment of hazardous substances, facilitates reuse, enables cheaper recycling and higher quality recycled materials. Selective demolition requires specific knowledge and skills as well as specialized equipment and mechanization, which GBS and its partners possess and can carry out as a service quickly and professionally.

Specialized construction machinery equipment
GBS possess highly specialized construction machinery equipment to carry out selective demolition and sorting of construction waste. In cooperation with external partners, we could assist to hire any type of specialized construction machinery and equipment. The transportation of construction waste is subject to a permit/registration regime under Article 35 of the Waste Management Act. GBS offers services related to the collection and transportation of construction waste from the site of generation (from demolition, repair or reconstruction).

Training
The GBS in cooperation with its partners in the MOBICCON-PRO project offers training related to all construction waste management activities: regulations, testing of recycled construction materials, implementation of requirements for the incorporation of recycled materials, record keeping on the implementation of CWMP, etc.
